For Cathy Betzner-Sutton, volunteering with Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN) is more than just a way to give back—it’s a calling. Having cared for her own parents and recently supported her aunt through cancer treatments, Cathy understands firsthand the importance of compassionate care and has always had a heart to help others.

Over the course of a year, Cammie Grant watched her father, Marshall’s, health steadily decline. Although he lived in an assisted living facility and she or someone in her family visited him daily, she realized he needed more care and support than they could provide. That’s when she turned to Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN). For five months, Team BCN walked alongside her family prioritizing expert medical care, comfort, dignity and connection.

Patty May’s dedication to her patients has never wavered even in this past winter’s snow, ice and cold. For three weeks in January, Patty, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in our Pikeville region, repeatedly walked two miles each day to reach her car that she parked at the mouth of her holler so she wouldn’t get snowed in and could continue to provide necessary care to her patients.

When Robin Moss and her family welcomed her in-laws into their home, they knew it would be a journey of love, patience, and challenges. But when her father-in-law Teddy’s health declined due to a cancer diagnosis, Robin quickly realized they needed extra support and turned to Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN).

Bluegrass Care Navigators, in partnership with UK HealthCare, is relocating its inpatient hospice unit to a new home within UK HealthCare’s Good Samaritan Hospital. The move to the new location — scheduled for April 30 — reflects a continued commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care in a space that is more accessible and comfortable for patients and their loved ones.

Randy Conn is not your average patient. After suffering a migraine induced stroke at age 32 that left him legally blind, Randy learned to live with pain by focusing on what he could do rather than his limitations. He became an excellent wood worker, making beautiful pieces, like Adirondack chairs, tables and blanket chests for family and friends. After his diagnosis with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), a condition causing severe cognitive decline, behavioral changes, mood and sleep disorders, and ultimately death, Randy resolved to live with dignity and preserve his quality of life.
