BCN Volunteer and Patient Inspires Others by Giving Back
Volunteering isn’t just something I do; it’s who I am. My name is Rich Haley, and for me, service is a way of life. I’ve spent years helping others. Even now, as a current hospice patient at Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN), I continue to find my purpose by volunteering as an 11th hour volunteer, offering companionship to patients in their final moments when no family is nearby.
Volunteer work has provided me with an opportunity to give back some of the blessings I have received throughout my life. And accepting help as a patient in need myself has shown me a new dimension of gratitude for BCN that I would otherwise not have experienced.
In the summer of 2023, I was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer. Before becoming a hospice patient, I knew about the care our hospice teams provided. Now I know the depth of their support firsthand. BCN is not just about the individual, but about the family. They are also supporting my wife with grief counseling and will continue to support her after my passing.
