Celebrating Care Reimagined Because of Our Donors

February 17, 2026

Thanks to your remarkable generosity, our two-year Care Reimagined fundraising campaign has been a resounding success. With your steadfast support, Bluegrass Care Navigators exceeded our ambitious $7 million goal by the December 31, 2025, deadline! This achievement ensures that we can continue to provide essential care and support to seriously and terminally ill individuals within our community.

“Thanks to your incredible generosity, we didn’t just reach our goal, we surpassed it!” said Laura Klumb, Vice President of Philanthropy. “Our Caring Community continues to inspire us, and we are deeply grateful for your unwavering support, which allows us to provide compassionate care at the moments when it matters most for those facing serious illness.”

Our campaign was designed with three primary goals in mind: 1) to maintain our annual operations through the ongoing generosity of our supporters; 2) to expand and enhance innovative or under-reimbursed programs such as Medical Respite, Bright Path, Dementia Care, Bluegrass PACE Care, and Integrative Medicine; and 3) to secure the organization’s long-term sustainability by encouraging documented future gifts through thoughtful estate planning.

"Donors have always been the driving force behind our ability to innovate and deliver vital programs at Bluegrass Care Navigators," said Liz Fowler, President and CEO. "Because of your generosity, we are able to continually grow and adapt our services, ensuring that we remain a trusted and leading provider of healthcare for frail older adults, as well as those facing serious and terminal illness. Your partnership empowers us to serve patients and families now and for generations to come. Thank you for making this meaningful work possible!"

Bluegrass Care Navigators has partnered with God’s Pantry to provide food boxes to patients experiencing food insecurity across its service lines. In the first month alone, team members and volunteers delivered 50 boxes to medically frail older adults. By addressing barriers like transportation, mobility, and limited income, this collaboration extends patient care beyond clinical needs to better support overall health and quality of life.

Marla Sowers was never defined by titles though she held many. A pianist and Miss Morehead State University, a valedictorian, a beautiful singer, and an excellent writer, she carried the practical wisdom of her farming family into everything she did. As a public school elementary music teacher, Marla shaped hearts by inviting students to see kindness as strength. When a dementia diagnosis altered the rhythm of her days, her husband Richard cared for her at home and then with the help of an assisted living facility for as long as he could. After several years, the facility referred her to Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN) for hospice services.
