Organization Completes Purchase of Home Health Operated by WEDCO Health Department

(Cynthiana, Ky.) – Bluegrass Care Navigators has completed the purchase of WEDCO Health Department’s home health services and will assume ownership of the license and provision of care to patients starting July 1, under the name Bluegrass Home Health Care. Bluegrass Home Health Care will provide services in Harrison, Scott, Bourbon and Nicholas counties.

Patients previously cared for by WEDCO’s home health program will have the opportunity to transition their care to Bluegrass Home Health Care or choose another home health provider, according to Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Bluegrass Care Navigators has served Harrison, Scott, Bourbon and Nicholas counties for more than 30 years as the local provider of hospice care, with a regional office located in Cynthiana.

“As a local, community-based healthcare organization providing care wherever patients call home, we know how valuable home-based services are in the communities we serve,” said CEO Liz Fowler. “We are honored to expand our services in these counties and ensure continuity of care for patients and families cared for by WEDCO’s home health program.”

“We are pleased to have found a partner in Bluegrass Care Navigators in the sale of our home health license,” said WEDCO director Crystal Miller. “We have found a purchaser who shares our values and commitment in serving our community and are confident that they will continue providing excellent care to those who seek home health services.”

Patients who transition to BCN should experience little change in their care team, as many of the home health team will continue serving the community as employees of Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Anyone who is interested in home health services provided by Bluegrass Home Health Care should speak to their physician about their care needs. More information about Bluegrass Home Health Care and other services offered by Bluegrass Care Navigators can be found at www.bgcareanav.org.

I always take a deep breath when I get a visit request for a patient who is an artist. Sometimes it is difficult to bridge the gap between art making and art therapy, and not every artist at the end of life needs or benefits from art therapy. Sometimes the ability to make art is one of the losses being grieved by a patient and arriving with simple supplies such as oil pastels and colored pencils feels like an insult when the home is filled with stunning oil paintings or drawings. Often, it feels like a caregiver is hoping I can help them reclaim something lost to illness and decline.

Holidays can be a hard time for hospice families, especially if their loved one suffers from dementia and has difficulty communicating in the way they used to. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with a patient who has end-stage dementia. When I arrived at the facility where she lives, I happened to run into the patient and her family out in the hallway.

Valentine's Day is just another 'special day' grieving spouses may dread. It can be especially difficult for the recently widowed. The potential load of emotional pain, such as loneliness, sadness, and isolation may depend upon whether Valentine's Day had special meaning for you as a couple. Grief can be intensified by triggers or flashbacks of special memories. Loss of identity and self-confidence can further promote a perception of awkwardness, especially in a world pushing a couple mindset. This is only heightened by media and stores advertising the upcoming special day.
